Happy 2012 Folks

Happy 2012. Sorry we are so late  but things have been pretty busy here. Mostly down to the cold and windy weather we have been incredibly busy replacing our customers old drafty double glazing with our superior triple glazing.

So it seems that staying warm and keeping green are still at the forefronts of our energy efficient minds.Which got me thinking of the eco friendly homes that they review on Channel 4′s Grand Designs, they are great believers in triple glazing and they are bang on the money when it comes to its thermal and ‘green’ advantages.

In short they say….

Why Choose Triple Glazing instead of Double Glazing?

* Thermal Insulation
* Your Home will stay warmer
* Less energy will be used to heat your home
* Less carbon emmissions
* More money staying in YOUR pocket rather than the energy companies!

The Mystery of Condensation

Today’s blog is on behalf of a customer of ours that Tweeted us this morning:

“Today old double glazed conservatory covered in internal condensation, new triple windows – condensation is on the outside? Awesome….”

Great news. This means that your new Triple Glazing is working. Bad news, it means that your conservatory is still losing you money on your energy bills.

Here is the science:

Interior Condensation (In your double glazing):

Whenever there is excess humidity in a home, it manifests itself in the form of condensation on the coldest area of a wall, which in this case is the windows. The warmer the air, the more moisture it will retain, so when air in your home comes in contact with the colder glass surface, it is subsequently cooled and moisture is released in the form of condensation on the glass.

Exterior Condensation (In your Triple Glazing):

Exterior condensation occurs when moist air comes into contact with cool surfaces, such as glass. This type of condensation appears when the dew point in the air is higher than the temperature of the glass. This occurs when a cool night follows a warmer day, most typically during the spring and fall seasons.

The triple glazed system with the three air gaps and low e glass  reduces heat conducted through the glass from the warm interior of the home to the outside glass surface. This reflected heat energy reduces the outside glass temperature and can result in condensation on the glass. Exterior condensation is actually an indication that the insulating glass in the window is performing as it should.

Triple Glazing Superheroes

Just found an AMAZING blog!

Check out the the Triple Glazing Superheroes they have some real insights into the benefits of not only triple glazing but all sorts of energy saving hom;e improvements like Solar Panels and Carbon Saving initiatives.

Just  a small insight:

In terms of insulation triple glazed windows are much closer than double glazing to the standard of insulation provided by the walls, floor and roof of a property. Therefore the overall insulation of a property is much more consistent and, inside the home, the result is that there are less cold spots, draughts and internal condensation. So if double glazed windows make homes more comfortable to live in, triple glazed windows make them even more comfortable.

Staying Warm While Going Green

With cold weather coming up, you’re probably thinking of how you can keep your house warm, save money—and still stay conscious of the environment

A recent survey that measured homeowners attitudes, 88% of UK residents responded that they want to make their homes more energy efficient, yet almost half  have not taken any steps to do this because they think it would be too expensive.

At Advanced we maintain that new innovations in Triple Glazing have made UPVC windows a cost effective—and green—way to increase the energy efficiency of homes. We also say that plastic building products help lower maintenance and replacement costs as well because of their durability. They are also recyclable.

On my search for more energy savig tips i came across the following recommedations when cosidering plastic to insulate your home:

  • Seal it up. Installing plastic weather stripping around drafty windows and doors helps reduce the loss of warm or cool air throughout the home.
  • Swap them out. Replacing older, inefficient windows with durable, low maintenance Triple Glazed windows can help save on energy costs. More efficient windows help keep hot or cold air where it belongs, whether outside or inside, to reduce heating and cooling costs.
  • Insulate. Plastic foam insulation for roofs, walls, and foundations helps improve energy efficiency and save on utility bills.

“Supply and fitting of new triple glazing windows”

I have recently started the dreaded task of home inmprovements.
I thought the most important area to start was from the outside in so I opted to have the windows replaced before I started any internal improvements. I contacted several companies to provide quotations stating to all companies that I would not sign for the purchase until I had research all companies. I write my review bearing this in mind, 3 out of the 5 companies that provided quotations for my new windows sales tactics were aggresive and their prices over inflated, meaning I’ll phone the boss for a price cut. The two companies that I was left to chose from I must admit that the Advanced Group 44mm triple glazing was a far superior product to my second choice who could only offer a look like triple glazing. From the first salesmans knock at the door to the final sweep of the brush I am so smitten that I have chosen the Advanced Group. The windows have made such a difference to the internal and external look of my property and the quality and finish have far exceeded expectations, I would like to say to anybody who is thinking of purchasing home improvements to seriously consider The Advanced Group because like so many others that have had to chose between companies I am so glad to have chosen them. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Mark hill and his team of Merry Men for their proffesionalism and courtious attidute throughout my installation. I cant begin to explain the vast improvement in heat loss and noise prevention and this is without any wallpaper on my walls.

Thanks Advanced Group.

Summer Holiday Blues?

As much as I am currently enjoying the fact that I don’t need to have the kids up and out for the 9am school bell I am also at a complete loss as to what I am going to entertain them for the next six weeks (how long???)

In the past at this time of the year, much like the rest of the country, we would be considering a last minute deal to fly off to Spain or Turkey however, the current ecomonic climate has made us reconsider! Definitely thinking closer to home!

Traditionally, business at Advanced during the summer falls but maybe this year it will be different…

If you were thinking about replacing your existing double glazing then this is the ideal time to do it.

Remember that actually in terms of installing your triple glazing this is the best window of opportunity weather wise there will be all year.

Things to consider when choosing an energy efficient window for your home…

As energy efficiency works its way to the front of everyones mind, the marketplace has literally become awash with ‘energy saving’ products.

From  doing your laundry at 30 degrees to government schemes and initiatives encouraging us to make improvements to our home to be more energy efficient it seems that every company selling every product out there has a new ’green message’.

In the UPVC window industry alone there are companies promoting  Ecogain, Planitherm Glass, energyKare, A Rated windows – you name it, you can buy it.

But which product is truly the most energy efficient product on the market and which product is best suited to our Scottish climate?

Here is our top five things to consider when choosing your UPVC windows in Scotland:

1. Know your glass:

It’s all very well talking about the heat retaining aspects of certain types of glass but does this actually work in Scotland? The glass in question allows the sunlight to travel through thus heating your home (and bleaching your furniture) however, when the sun is at it’s warmest in order to make this a benefit it is summer time hence we don’t need our homes heated as much as we do in the winter when there is no sun! Furthermore, this glass does NOT stop the heat we create inside our homes from travelling back out the window.

2. Ask about the gas:

The best and most efficient windows on the market will all utilise inert gases in the spaces between the glass units. The more inert gas the more dense the space becomes that heat has to escape through. Advanced triple glazing employ a three air gap system, each gap filled with argon and krypton gas.

3.  What is the spacer bar made of?

Choose your spacer bar wisely. All our customer have a choice of spacer bar from standard aluminium to the latest warm edge carbon technology. The carbon spacer actually slows down the conduction of heat.

4. Is the triple glazing your being sold REALLY triple glazing?

Unfortunately not all triple glazing is real triple glazing! Our unique 44mm triple glazing utilises a multi-chamber profile, which is fully steel reinforced. It is the 44m that makes the difference, it is these air gaps that make the triple glazing truly energy efficient. Beware of companies who simply offer you three panes of glass.

5. Ask questions about the company:

Every company out there will offer you a guarantee on your window installation but how long have that company been in operation? Don’t be shy to ask. Also, what do their previous customers have to say about them? Ask for testimonials, or do some online research. It will be worth it in the end.

Glazing experts agree – double glazing’s days are numbered

It’s official, it must be because the experts from www.glazine.com agree.

As we trawled our industry magazines this week we came across a very encouraging article in the Glazine Magazine. It seems that word has spread regarding triple glazing.

The article sets out how only last year industry experts were discussing the unkliehood of triple glazing becoming popular and widespread owing to some of the common misconceptions surrounding the product (a lot of these are covered in our FAQ’s).

However, it seems they now concur ‘triple glazing has to be the next logical step to double glazing’. They go on to say that ‘if people want energy efficient windows, then they will prefer three panes of glass to two’

In fact there is only part of the article that we have to disagree on – they seem to think that in reality triple glazing’s widepsread manufacturing has been nothing more than  a pipedream up until now. This may well be the case south of the border but if you are looking for a triple glazing manufacturer and installer  in Scotland that has been in business for over 23 years,  then look no further.

We have been manufacturing and installing triple glazing windows, doors and conservatories all over Scotland as standard for over two years. We simply won’t even consider recommending double glazing! That is not a pipedream this is a reality.

Is it time to improve and not move?

Being in the  home improvements market we do try to keep up to date with the latest trends in the housing market, it gives us the foresight to know whether customers are generally thinking about moving or improving. That is to say are they thinking about moving house to gain an extra public room or staying put and investing in a conservatory to create the space and value to their home.

Not an easy decision as any home owner will confess.

We came across a news item in the Scotsman recently about current house prices in Scotland that definitely raised the question: is it time to move? or time to improve?

With an average increase in Scottish house prices at a low of £77 last year it does seem that the road to recovery is a long and uncertain one. It occurs to us that perhaps staying put and investing in home improvements is the way forward.  Then when the time comes to sell  will give your property the edge or unique selling point over your neighbours.

Triple Glazing and Solar Panels are two of the best examples of home improvements products that can not only set your house apart from other houses on the market but actually offer the new homeowner a massive benefit and you a huge selling point.

Firstly, both these energy efficient products will give you a higher score on your home report meaning that the likliehood is that your house will increase in value and additionally the new owner would not only be able to save on heating bills through the triple glazing but also be able to generate income through the solar panels.

If the time comes and you don’t move then the benefit stays the same, it will be you saving on your gas bills and making money on your clean renewable electricity. Win, win situation.

Times are tough and uncertain, there is no denying that but in actual fact if you are looking to invest your money the best way is still to invest in your property, make your home work for you, with the right investements your home can save you money and make you money! Let’s face it -  it’s a safer bet than the interest rates we are getting from our banks!?
