Firstly, ask yourself do you need new Roofline? The answer is probably yes.

Roofline is the term used to describe the fascia, soffits, bargeboards and cladding that forms the frontage immediately below the roof and the eaves of your home, these are traditionally made from wood and as such suffer from rot, general deterioration and require regular maintenance.

Advanced Roofline replaces these with high quality, specially designed and attractive UPVC versions that provide long term protection with no maintenance.

In addition to replacing the fascia, soffits and bargeboards, the guttering and downpipes can be replaced and dry verge used to protect the tile edges on the eaves. Roofline installation provides a cost effective home improvement that not only improves the look of your property, but adds long term protection.

Back into the Advanced office this morning after some time off over Easter and have literally been bombarded with e-mails and google alerts regarding the impending Government Energy Intiative – The Green Deal.

It’s not like Advanced to get political but….

Someone needs to talk about the fact that the Green Deal is coming (October 2012) and address why most of the homeowners in Scotland know little to nothing about it!

How will the Green Deal work? How will it effect Scottish homeowners? Who will be Green Deal approved? How can you access Green Deal finance?

I’m afraid no matter how much i have read this morning , I’m still not sure of the definative answer to any of these quetions. Most of what is published on the Green Deal from DECC and the Government is all based on theory and pilot schemes as opposed to addressing any real concerns and issues over the initiative being rolled out across the country in such a short space of time.

What is the Green Deal?

The Green Deal is the flagship Government initiative to increase the energy efficiency of British properties, both private and commercial.

The Green Deal will allow private firms to provide domestic and commercial customers with glazing, loft and wall insulation and other structural improvements designed to boost the energy efficiency of their buildings and reduce heating bills.

From autumn 2012, participating energy utility companies and accredited retailers will provide customers across the UK with quality-assured work to their homes, businesses and community spaces for no upfront cost, and without loans or advance finance.

The full cost of the measures (up to £10,000) will be recovered through instalments on the energy bill over several years, and because the Green Deal is not a personal loan or an advance payment scheme, if you move home during the term of the agreement the payments stay with the house as opposed to the individual.

Suitability for the scheme will be assessed on a simple calculation, known as the “golden rule” of the Green Deal – the predicted savings from the energy efficiency improvements to your property must equal or exceed the cost of installation.

In particular, there will be a drive to provide extra support for vulnerable members of society and low income families. It is recognised that in an effort to control costs, some households use the central heating only very sparingly throughout the year and will not therefore reap enough savings through energy efficiency installations to meet the golden rule.

Under the Green Deal, these households will be insulated so low income families can enjoy warmer, more comfortable homes for longer periods of time.

Additional support will also be provided for people living in outdated properties that will require substantial and expensive work to become energy efficient, such as homes with solid walls

Sound Good?

Too good? Too good to be true? We hope not.

What is concerning us the moment are two very important factors:

Firstly, who pays the Domestic Energy Assesor that asseses the properties? Unless it is the customer themeselves how can this assessor be truly impartial? Surely, the assessor will either be employed by or at least ‘tied’ to a company or companies, in which case there is a real danger that consumers will be sold too rather than being independantly assessed.

Secondly, as the Telegraph has pointed out today there is also a real worry that SME’s and local tradesmen are in danger of being frozen out of the Green Deal by the big retailers such as B&Q and Marks & Spencers this, as i am sure we are all aware, does not guarantee the consumer getting the most value for their money. If the larger companies are allowed by the Government to corner the Green Deal market then customers are not benefiting from a truly competitive market.

So what are we going to do?

The Green Deal is coming so as an MCS accredited home improvements company we are commited to being ready to be a green deal installer. In prepartation we have already trained our surveyors as Domestic Energy Asessors so we can already provide each of our customers with an Energy Performance Certificate as standard. As October very quickly approaches we just hope that there will be more clarification surround the intiatives for our customers.

If you do have any questions regarding the Green Deal or the kind of home improvements covered by the scheme then e-mail us at salesroom@theadvancedgroup.co.uk or info@advancedgroupsolar.co.uk

The key benefits are really to do with comfort. If you insulate the walls, roof and floor of a house, and you ignore the double glazing , the cold areas surround the windows during night, this causes draughts, it draws heat away from the home, and results in streams of condensation running down the panes. Ulitmately, the standard of double glazing has to match the standard of the insulation elsewhere in the house, so that the warm wrapping around the house performs and therefore, saves you energy and money.

Which is where triple glazing comes in. Because if double glazing makes a modern house more comfortable to live in, triple glazing makes it even more so.

The physics involved here have been worked out in Germany by the PassivHaus Institute. It has shown what happens to surface temperatures on various forms of glazing when it gets really cold outside, bearing in mind that the internal air temperature is designed to be at 21°C:

Next to a single-glazed window, the internal surface temperature is around 1°C.

Next to a double-glazed window, the surface temperature is around 11°C.

Next to a modern, energy-efficient double-glazed window, the surface temperature is 16°C (fitted after 2000)

Next to an Advanced Ultimate triple-glazed window, with a centre-pane U-value of just 0.65, the temperature is 18°C.

So you can see that whilst UPVC double glazing is perfectly adequate, UPVC Triple Glazing is just that much more comfortable and efficient. So Advanced triple glazing will make a difference to your heating bills, and you will notice the difference inside your house.

Here at the Advanced Group Scotland we have been fitting Triple Glazing as standard for over four years in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Fife, all over Scotland. Because we know our triple glazed window is one of the best UPVC windows on the Scottish market we offer an unrivalled, Product, Price and Service Guarantee as standard.

Just because the Upvc on your double glazing looks fine don’t dismiss the idea of changing them again as a major home improvement.

Here are four important reasons why your double glazing could be letting you down:

Apperance:

20 years ago double glazing was clumsy, square edged and lacked the aesthetic appeal of the timber window that went before. Today’s triple glazing windows have softer curves, traditional details and can simulate timber in every conceivable way. Replica timber grains and fresh colours are now readily available to give your home a distinguished look that was just not possible before.

Security:

Older Upvc windows and doors have very primitive locking capabilities and many customers are still convinced that a locking handle on a window provides them with security – believe us it does not – the security is provided by the hardware within. Our triple glazed windows and doors have state of the art locking systems that will eradicate the worry of burglary.

Saving You Money:

Visit any energy efficiency websites and they will advise that the first step is to ensure that our homes are adequately insulated. This makes it easier to reach comfortable temperatures in our living space which in turn uses less energy and therefore costs us less money. Your Upvc windows have a vital role to play in the thermal performace of your home.

Did you know that if your windows were installed prior to April 2002 they could up 20 times less energy efficient than the triple glazing we are able to be install today? Installing our A rated, triple glazed windows and doors can save you up to 25% from your current energy bills, that is £250 to £300 per year on the average UK home.

Reducing CO2.

Replacing your double glazing with modern thermally efficient triple glazing demonstrates a very real commitment to reducing your carbon footprint. If everyone in the UK fitted A rated energy windows it would be the equivalent to taking 800000 cars off the road.

Happy 2012. Sorry we are so late but things have been pretty busy here. Mostly down to the cold and windy weather we have been incredibly busy replacing our customers old drafty double glazing with our superior triple glazing.

So it seems that staying warm and keeping green are still at the forefronts of our energy efficient minds.Which got me thinking of the eco friendly homes that they review on Channel 4′s Grand Designs, they are great believers in triple glazing and they are bang on the money when it comes to its thermal and ‘green’ advantages.

In short they say….

Why Choose Triple Glazing instead of Double Glazing?

* Thermal Insulation
* Your Home will stay warmer
* Less energy will be used to heat your home
* Less carbon emmissions
* More money staying in YOUR pocket rather than the energy companies!

Today’s blog is on behalf of a customer of ours that Tweeted us this morning:

“Today old double glazed conservatory covered in internal condensation, new triple windows – condensation is on the outside? Awesome….”

Great news. This means that your new Triple Glazing is working. Bad news, it means that your conservatory is still losing you money on your energy bills.

Here is the science:

Interior Condensation (In your double glazing):

Whenever there is excess humidity in a home, it manifests itself in the form of condensation on the coldest area of a wall, which in this case is the windows. The warmer the air, the more moisture it will retain, so when air in your home comes in contact with the colder glass surface, it is subsequently cooled and moisture is released in the form of condensation on the glass.

Exterior Condensation (In your Triple Glazing):

Exterior condensation occurs when moist air comes into contact with cool surfaces, such as glass. This type of condensation appears when the dew point in the air is higher than the temperature of the glass. This occurs when a cool night follows a warmer day, most typically during the spring and fall seasons.

The triple glazed system with the three air gaps and low e glass reduces heat conducted through the glass from the warm interior of the home to the outside glass surface. This reflected heat energy reduces the outside glass temperature and can result in condensation on the glass. Exterior condensation is actually an indication that the insulating glass in the window is performing as it should.

Check out the the Triple Glazing Superheroes they have some real insights into the benefits of not only triple glazing but all sorts of energy saving hom;e improvements like Solar Panels and Carbon Saving initiatives.

Just a small insight:

In terms of insulation triple glazed windows are much closer than double glazing to the standard of insulation provided by the walls, floor and roof of a property. Therefore the overall insulation of a property is much more consistent and, inside the home, the result is that there are less cold spots, draughts and internal condensation. So if double glazed windows make homes more comfortable to live in, triple glazed windows make them even more comfortable.

With cold weather coming up, you’re probably thinking of how you can keep your house warm, save money—and still stay conscious of the environment

A recent survey that measured homeowners attitudes, 88% of UK residents responded that they want to make their homes more energy efficient, yet almost half have not taken any steps to do this because they think it would be too expensive.

At Advanced we maintain that new innovations in Triple Glazing have made UPVC windows a cost effective—and green—way to increase the energy efficiency of homes. We also say that plastic building products help lower maintenance and replacement costs as well because of their durability. They are also recyclable.

On my search for more energy savig tips i came across the following recommedations when cosidering plastic to insulate your home:

Seal it up. Installing plastic weather stripping around drafty windows and doors helps reduce the loss of warm or cool air throughout the home.

Swap them out. Replacing older, inefficient windows with durable, low maintenance Triple Glazed windows can help save on energy costs. More efficient windows help keep hot or cold air where it belongs, whether outside or inside, to reduce heating and cooling costs.

Insulate. Plastic foam insulation for roofs, walls, and foundations helps improve energy efficiency and save on utility bills.

“Supply and fitting of new triple glazing windows”

I have recently started the dreaded task of home inmprovements.
I thought the most important area to start was from the outside in so I opted to have the windows replaced before I started any internal improvements. I contacted several companies to provide quotations stating to all companies that I would not sign for the purchase until I had research all companies. I write my review bearing this in mind, 3 out of the 5 companies that provided quotations for my new windows sales tactics were aggresive and their prices over inflated, meaning I’ll phone the boss for a price cut. The two companies that I was left to chose from I must admit that the Advanced Group 44mm triple glazing was a far superior product to my second choice who could only offer a look like triple glazing. From the first salesmans knock at the door to the final sweep of the brush I am so smitten that I have chosen the Advanced Group. The windows have made such a difference to the internal and external look of my property and the quality and finish have far exceeded expectations, I would like to say to anybody who is thinking of purchasing home improvements to seriously consider The Advanced Group because like so many others that have had to chose between companies I am so glad to have chosen them. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Mark hill and his team of Merry Men for their proffesionalism and courtious attidute throughout my installation. I cant begin to explain the vast improvement in heat loss and noise prevention and this is without any wallpaper on my walls.

Thanks Advanced Group.

As much as I am currently enjoying the fact that I don’t need to have the kids up and out for the 9am school bell I am also at a complete loss as to what I am going to entertain them for the next six weeks (how long???)

In the past at this time of the year, much like the rest of the country, we would be considering a last minute deal to fly off to Spain or Turkey however, the current ecomonic climate has made us reconsider! Definitely thinking closer to home!

Traditionally, business at Advanced during the summer falls but maybe this year it will be different…

If you were thinking about replacing your existing double glazing then this is the ideal time to do it.

Remember that actually in terms of installing your triple glazing this is the best window of opportunity weather wise there will be all year.

Call us now to take advantage of the weather.
