Why Choose Advanced Top Hung Windows?

Top hung windows are a classic and elegant variation of the hugely popular casement window, hinged from the top, with the sash pivoting around the upper horizontal axis.

A top hung window is perfect for the unpredictable Scottish weather, opening outwards from the bottom and preventing rain from entering the room.

About Top Hung Windows

When installed correctly, a high quality top hinged window is a fantastic addition to any home.

Unfortunately, poor quality units can frequently swing shut as the hinges loosen over the years, meaning it is vital that you choose a respected installer such as Advanced who has developed and refined the best quality products anywhere on the market.

To ensure the quality and maximum durability of our top hung windows, our range has been carefully developed at one of Europe’s most advanced extrusion facilities using a combination of innovative design and sustainable production techniques.

This allows us to maintain the highest standard of quality control and gives you peace of mind that only the very best products will ever make it into your home.

We are also fully committed to meeting the sustainability needs of the current climate, with 80% of the materials used in all our uPVC window frames coming from recycled sources.

Top Hung Window Frames and Glazing

At Advanced, all our window frames are equipped with multi-chambers within the profile system which act as an excellent thermal barrier between the interior and exterior of your home.

These chambers significantly limit heat transfer through the window frame itself helping to keep your home warmer for longer during the winter months and making our windows some of the most energy efficient on the market.

The glazing panes we use in our windows are also designed specifically with energy efficiency in mind with energy reflecting glass transmitting solar energy from the outside into your living space and reflecting warm air back.

Thermo-spacer bars are also fitted between each glazed pane of double glazing and triple glazing to prevent cold areas from accumulating near the edge of the window and eliminate condensation.

Energy Efficiency

With energy bills rising, and domestic home insulation a more important issue than ever, we know just how important energy efficiency is to our customers when choosing new windows and doors.

All our top hung windows and top hung roof windows are A-rated for energy efficiency and achieve excellent u-values, the scale used to measure the thermal efficiency of window units.

As standard, a double glazed window from Advanced offers an impressive u-value of 1.4W/m2K, with the additional option of reducing this further to just 1.2 W/m2K.

Our triple glazing is even more effective, offering market leading ratings of just 0.8 W/m2K thanks to our innovative Soft Coat Xtra coating and Argon gas filling.

Security

Top hung windows come with a range of excellent security features, giving you peace of mind that your home and loved ones will be safe and sound at all times.

We take the security of our windows seriously, testing all the hardware components used in our top hung windows for 600 hours (3x longer than the industry average).

As standard, many of the windows that we provide also come with features such as a multi-point locking system, shot bolts, a trojan hinge, and hook locks.

Our top hung windows are also all internally glazed so that the protective glazing bead cannot be tampered with from outside your property.

Laminated and toughened glass are also available upon request.

FAQ - Top Hung Windows

What are top hung windows?

Top hung windows are casement windows hinged from the top with the sash that pivots around the upper horizontal axis. They open outwards from the bottom, making them ideal for Scottish weather. This is because top hung windows can help prevent rain from entering the home while allowing for adequate ventilation.

What materials are top hung windows made from?

Advanced Group’s top hung window units are made from high-quality uPVC. In addition, the materials used for all the frames of the window units are composed of up to 80% recycled material. The multi-chambered profiles help provide excellent thermal efficiency, while the incorporation of energy-reflecting glass and thermo-spacer bars aid in enhancing performance.

What are the benefits of top hung windows?

Top hung windows prevent rain ingress while they are open. Which is why top hung windows make them a perfect choice for locations with unpredictable weather. They offer excellent ventilation without compromising security, provide unobstructed views when fully open, and are ideal for hard-to-reach locations. Their outward-opening design saves interior space and enhances safety in high-traffic areas.

Why do some top hung windows swing shut?

Poor quality top hung windows may swing shut as hinges loosen over time due to inferior materials and manufacturing. Advanced Group’s windows are manufactured at Europe’s most advanced extrusion facilities using innovative design and rigorous quality control, ensuring hinges remain secure and functional throughout their lifespan.

How are top hung windows different from casement windows?

Top hung windows are hinged at the top and open outwards from the bottom, whereas side-hung casement windows are hinged at the side. Top hung windows excel in wet weather conditions and restricted spaces. Both achieve identical A-rated energy efficiency and security standards at Advanced Group.

Are top-hung windows secure?

Most well-built top hung windows can be internally glazed. This allows the protective glazing bead to remain untouched, and it cannot be tampered with from outside your property for added security. For further security, apart from multi-point locking systems and 600-hour salt spray tested hardware components, laminated and toughened glass are available as options.
