Maybe you have noticed a change in temperature in your house. Bills rising. Or condensation sitting on or inside your windows in the morning.
If that sounds familiar, your windows are telling you something.
Older windows lose their seal over time.
The gas between the panes escapes, the rubber gaskets harden and shrink, and what used to keep the cold out now barely slows it down.
In a city like Glasgow, where rain and wind can feel more common than the sun, tired windows make a noticeable difference to how warm and comfortable your home feels.
But not to worry, The Advanced Group is here to help with over 38 years of trusted experience. Whether you need new windows for a single room or a full house of replacement windows and doors, we can help you find the right solution and get everything installed properly.
Signs your windows need replacing
Some problems are obvious. Cracked glass, rotten timber frames, handles that don’t lock properly.
But other signs are easier to miss, and by the time you notice them, they’ve already been costing you money for months or even years.
Condensation between the panes
If you can see moisture or fogging between the two sheets of glass, the sealed unit has failed.
Once the seal breaks, the argon gas that provides insulation escapes, and the window loses a significant chunk of its thermal performance.
Don’t throw money away with rising heating prices, and make sure to restore your home’s thermal efficiency with perfectly sealed new windows.
Draughts and cold spots
Hold your hand near the edges of the window on a windy day. If you can feel cold air coming through, the seals have deteriorated.
Draught proofing strips can help temporarily, but they’re a sticking plaster on a problem that will only get worse as the rubber continues to perish.
Difficulty opening or closing
Windows that stick, jam, or won’t lock properly are a security risk as well as an insulation issue. Warped frames, worn hinges, and failed mechanisms all suggest the window has reached the end of its working life.
Multi-point locking systems on modern windows are far more secure than the single-point catches on older models, and options like toughened glass add further protection.
High energy bills
Windows account for a significant proportion of heat loss in any home. It is the bridge between you and the outside world.
Older double glazing is a thing of the past, and the energy ratings will be well below what’s available now, even if they were a decent specification when they were first installed.
Protect your home from high energy bills with new double glazed windows and doors.
Types of windows we install in Glasgow
Every Glasgow home is different, and the right window style depends on the building, the room, and how you use it.
The Advanced Group supplies and fits a full range of windows and doors in both double glazed and triple glazed options, including uPVC triple and double and triple glazed casement, sash, tilt and turn, and top hung styles.
Casement windows
Perhaps the most popular window style in the UK. Casement windows are side-hinged and open outwards, which makes them practical for ventilation and easy to clean from inside.
Casement windows suit most property types, from modern homes to traditional villas, and are available in a wide range of colours and finishes, including woodgrain effects that replicate the look of timber without the maintenance and fear of warping.

Sliding sash windows
Glasgow has thousands of tenement flats and traditional sandstone properties where the original windows were timber sash and case.
Our sliding sash windows replicate the look of the originals while delivering modern thermal performance and security. The proportions, sight lines, and opening mechanism all match the traditional style, which matters if your property is in a conservation area or you simply want to maintain its character.
Tilt and turn windows
These windows tilt inward at the top for secure ventilation and turn fully inward on a side hinge for easy cleaning.
They’re a popular choice for upper-floor flats where cleaning the outside of the glass from a ladder isn’t practical.
The tilt function gives you airflow without the security concerns of a fully open window, which is particularly useful for families with young children.
Top Hung Windows
Top hung windows are hinged at the top and open outward from the bottom, making them a practical choice for ventilation while helping to keep rain out.
They’re often used in bathrooms, kitchens, stairwells, bay window arrangements, and other spaces where privacy and airflow are equally important.

French windows
French windows are full-length windows that open outward like French doors.
They work well in pairs and can be combined with sidelights to fill a wide opening with glass and natural light.
uPVC window double glazing in Glasgow
The Advanced Group specialises in uPVC frame materials for good reasons.
Scottish weather is tough, and uPVC is made to be durable and resistant to wild, windy, and wet weather. Unlike timber frames, uPVC won’t have the same warping or rot concerns.
Not only that, but uPVC is low maintenance.
Simply, wipe it down with soapy water and it can look good as new.
But more importantly, our uPVC windows are highly energy efficient. Designed with multi-chambered uPVC, some of our triple glazing frames can achieve a U-value as low as 0.8 W/m2K, helping restore energy efficiency to your home.
And best of all? uPVC double glazing is also the most affordable option, which means you can often fit higher-specification glazing without blowing the budget. We also supply glazed uPVC doors, including uPVC doors, composite doors, and patio doors to match.

Energy efficiency and your heating bills in your Glasgow home
Scotland is cold, wet, and windy for a good chunk of the year. Glasgow averages around 1,500mm of rainfall annually and winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing.
In that climate, the energy performance of your windows makes a real difference to how much you spend on heating and how comfortable your home feels day to day.
The thermal efficiency of any window is measured by its U-value.
The lower the number, the less heat escapes through the glass and frame. Scottish building regulations currently require a maximum U-value of 1.6 W/m2K for replacement windows.
Our standard double glazed windows achieve 1.2 W/m2K, and our premium models can reach values as low as 0.8 W/m2K. That’s high-quality double glazing and triple glazing that performs twice as well as the regulatory minimum.
The difference shows up on your energy bills.
A-rated energy-efficient windows and doors with argon gas filled sealed units and low-E glass coatings reflect heat back into the room while still letting light through.
If you’re upgrading from old single-glazed sash windows or early double glazing from the 1990s, you could see a noticeable drop in your heating costs within the first winter. Many double glazing companies in Glasgow offer basic products, but few can match the quality of the windows and doors we supply.
When to consider triple glazing?
Our trusted installers often get asked about our triple glazing products.
Triple glazing has an extra pane of glass, allowing it to provide enhanced insulation and improved noise reduction.
If your property is located in a:
- exposed location
- up a hill or high above sea level
- facing north
- near a busy road or under a flight path
The Advanced Group would be more than happy to guide you through the benefits of triple glazing.

New windows Glasgow: your questions answered
What type of windows are best for Glasgow tenements?
Sliding sash windows are usually the best choice for tenement flats. They replicate the traditional sash and case style while delivering modern insulation and security. If the tenement is in a conservation area, sash-style windows may be required to match the original appearance.
Do I need planning permission for new windows in Glasgow?
In most cases, no. Replacing windows on a like-for-like basis is permitted development and doesn’t need planning permission. The exception is properties in conservation areas or listed buildings, where you may need consent from Glasgow City Council before changing the window style or material. We can advise you on this during the free survey.
How long does window installation take?
A full house of windows (typically 8 to 12 windows) takes one to two days. Smaller jobs like a tenement flat with four or five windows can usually be completed in a single day. We always work around your schedule to find an installation date that works for you.
Can you replace sash windows with double glazing?
Yes. We supply sliding sash windows in both double and triple glazed specifications. They look like traditional timber sash windows but deliver modern thermal performance, security, and low maintenance. They help you replace windows without changing the character of the building.
